Creating a Custom Benchmark

1. Go to your My Custom Product page from your profile tab on the top right of the screen

Note: The data that you input into iRate is your responsibility to maintain and be liable for. Lonsec accepts no liability for this external data.

 

2. Click on 'Create New' to create your custom product

 

3. Select the product type - 'Benchmark

Complete the fields on the screen, as appropriate
Note: the fields marked with a red asterisk are compulsory

Ownership: Select if you want to make this product available to other users in your business 
Note: this option may not be available to all users and is dependent on your user settings. The default is personal

Code: a code unique to this product you are creating, similar to an index identifier

Name: the name you are giving the benchmark

Asset Class: select the asset class. This will be the default sector the product will be measured against, for example in Quantitative Analysis

Sector: select the sector, if required. This will be the default sector the product will be measured against, for example in Quantitative Analysis

Sub-sector: select the sub-sector, if required. This will be the default sub-sector the product will be measured against, for example in Quantitative Analysis

Once this criteria has been populated, click Create.

 

4. Upload the data    

Choose whether you wish to upload Composite Performance (e.g. to create a benchmark from benchmarks already in iRate) or if you wish to upload growth data under Custom Performance to create your own benchmark.

After making your selection click Add Product.

Option A  - Composite Performance

Choose whether you wish to upload Composite Performance or if you wish to upload growth data under Custom Performance. After making your selection click Add Product.

 

When you select add product you can then choose the list of benchmarks you want to combine together. Simply enter the the benchmark name. Then you can populate the weight percentage column ensuring your composite totals to 100%.

 

There is also a bin icon    to the right of each product if you wish to delete it. 

 

Once you have entered all the details click on 'Save' at the top of the screen

You can update/edit your benchmark at any time by coming back in and adding or deleting benchmarks & changing the weights. 

 

Option B  - Growth data Custom Performance

To create benchmarks we have no data for, you can load the growth or monthly return data into iRate by selecting the Custom Performance tab.

 

Click on Custom Performance to allow add the data for your custom benchmark.

You can choose to upload information by either selecting option A -  Upload Growth Data which uses our default template or by selecting B -  Adding Monthly Returns directly on the screen.

5. Using Growth Data

When you choose to upload growth data the below box will appear for you, follow the steps to download the template, populate the fields on the excel form, save the template when you have finished entering the data and then upload the file.

 

Populate the designated fields on the template: Code, Date and Value.

Once this is populated and saved, click the Upload Growth Data File.

 

 

When the file uploads the growth data values and monthly returns (%) will display on the screen. 

Your Custom Fund will show on the My Custom product home page and you are able to add further Growth Data, edit or delete your fund from here or use the functions to save, export or send to other parts of iRate.   

6. Adding Monthly Returns

This option will allow you to manually input your data starting with entering the performance date and then populating the % monthly return figure.

Click on the plus sign  to the right of the screen to add more returns. There is also a bin icon if you need to delete an entry.

When you have finished, click Save.

Your Custom Benchmark will show on the My Custom product home page and you are able to add further Growth Data, edit or delete your fund from here or use the functions to save, export or send to other parts of iRate.
