Using your product groups

Product Groups are useful if there is a group of products you need to access information for on a regular basis and monitor and review, for example your APL.

A Product Group allows you to quickly filter and access products relevant to you, saving you time searching for them each time in Product Search, adding them quickly to portfolios or for use in Quantitative Analysis. You can also set up alerts for rating changes and regular reports for saved Product Groups.

Some of the key areas where a Product Group can be especially useful are:

Product Search

If you regularly require information on a key list of products, saving these a Product Group will save you time searching for the products and accessing the data.

From each Product Search tab, expand the filters and select the product group(s) from the Product Group filter.

You can combine as many filters together as required to tailor the results to meet your criteria

Quantitative Analysis

Select your product group from the Add menu at the top of the screen, and select the Product Group tab.

Multiple product groups can be selected or used alongside funds or portfolios.

From the Settings area select the charts and criteria you want to use.

You can also use a Product Group as the competitive universe when running a Risk/ Return chart for example.

Portfolio Construction

Product Groups can be used in two ways within Portfolio Construction

1. To restrict the products in your search universe

When creating your Portfolio, selecting a Product Group(s) from the filter option means when adding products to your portfolio in the next step, the results will only show products which have been saved to your selected Product Group(s)

This can be particularly useful if you only want to use products in your APL which you have saved as a Product Group

Once you have clicked on 'Create' go to 'Add > Product Groups' and under each investment structure tab the products shown will only be those saved in your selected Product Group

2. To add all products saved in a Product Group to a portfolio

When in the portfolio view, go to 'Add > Product Groups' and select the Products Groups you want the products included in added to your portfolio

Note: this option is not a filter and will add every product saved in your Product Group to the portfolio. If you only want to restrict the products to search through to add to your portfolio, use option 1 above.
